Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare which focuses on the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the individual back to optimum levels of functional, occupational, and sport-specific fitness, regardless of someone's age and ability. Modern day lifestyles of sitting at a desk, driving, manual jobs can all contribute to impaired functionality and result in pain. Sports therapy techniques can include: clinical and postural assessments, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques, positional release techniques, soft tissue release and mobilisations, myofascial release, joint mobilisations, exercise therapy, kinesiology taping and mobility & stretching exercises.

Sports & Remedial Massage is based around the manipulation and assessment of the soft tissue in the body. This kind of work is injury prevention, by reducing tension build up, helping to improve flexibility and providing early detection of any sights of potential future problems. Frequently I would be able to identify any tender "hot spots"  before the client would have known about it, this helps to keep the client active and pain free.

Exercise and Rehabilitation Therapy restores function to the greatest degree in the shortest time, helping individuals to return to function with minimal risk of re-injury. This involves restoring strength, flexibility, stability, proprioception, endurance and power by prescribing exercises.

Myofascial Dry Cupping is a soft tissue treatment that involves decompressing cups on to the skin, to create a vacuum. This lifts the soft tissue and creates an upward stretch within the muscle and associated fascia. The benefits are it can help to reduce pain, help muscle relaxation, promote healing, increase circulation, stretch muscles, remove toxins and increase the flow of oxygenated blood and nutrient within the muscle.

About me

Sophie Goodfellow

BSc (Hons)

From an early age I have been competing at county level in cross country, athletics and road running. It was my love for running that initially sparked my interest in sports therapy. Having sustained injuries throughout my running career I feel my personal experience helps with the physical treatment, rehabilitation and psychological factors that unfortunately do come with an injury. However, I am a strong advocate that sports therapy and sports massage treatments are NOT just for those individuals who participate in sport. Our everyday movement still put stresses on our body, which can, over time, lead to long-term issues.

I studied Sport and Exercise Science at Staffordshire University (2017-2020), graduating with a first class honours and receiving an academic award. I then went to Active Health in Manchester and gained a distinction in Level 5 Advanced Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation (Sept 2020 - Nov 2021). During my course I ended up completing over 300 hours worth of case studies. I am a qualified Level 2 Sports First Aider and athletics coach. Currently, I am doing a degree in Health Coaching and Nutrition with Active Health in Manchester.

I am a member of the Sports Therapy Organisation (STO) and am fully insured with Balens Insurance.

I have recently taken my grandson to see Sophie as he has been struggling with a running injury, he's 9 years old and loves his running. Sophie explained everything to my grandson and checked both his legs and lower back. Excellent treatment along with being very professional and I highly recommend Sophie.

Sophie treated me on Friday, and I can honestly say this is one of the best sports injury treatments I have ever had. Sophie is very knowledgeable and explains the injury and treatment very clearly. I will definably be booking further appointments.

Visited Sophie a number of times now and very impressed with her knowledge and professionalism.Made to feel welcome in a comfortable setting. Sophie always explains her methods and when identifying any issues she points out the reasons of what may have caused this and how best to resolve through corrections or a plan.

Soph has helped me so much!! She knows exactly what areas to cover with a thorough consultation before and after! I would be in so much pain on a daily basis with stress/tension headaches and with regular visits she’s cleared it so much! Couldn’t recommend her enough!!
